Michał Szlaga

Michał Szlaga is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Poland. He is the author of Odyseja [Odyssey], Pikselowe prostytutki [Pixel Prostitutes], and the Stocznia Gdańska [Gdańsk Shipyard] series, which has been in continuous development since 1999. He has had solo exhibitions, including at the European Month of Photography, the Polnisches Institut Berlin, the International Festival of Photography in Łódź, Poland, and the Pingyao International Photography Festival in China. He has been recognised with multiple awards and honours, including from Grand Press Photo, BZ WBK Press Foto, and the International Photography Awards, and was chosen as the 2014 Culture-Maker of the Year in a Radio House of Culture poll. He has published two books (Odyseja, Stocznia), and a third volume, Polska [Poland], is currently in the works. Szlaga has also worked as a freelance photographer, shooting portraits for Newsweek Polska and Przekrój, and working with women’s magazines, MaleMEN, and the advertising industry.
